Many four year colleges and universities offer programs that lead to a bachelor's degree in a specialization of one of the many categories of art and design, business, education, health care, nursing, technology, criminal justice and engineering.
While specifics will vary from school to school and by state, a typical four-year degree program usually includes such elements as the successful completion of a minimum number of semester hours of credit; an overall grade point average of at least 2.00; the completion of a program of general education in the liberal arts and science (which would include courses in the arts and humanities, mathematics, natural and social science, and possibly a foreign language); and the successful completion of a required number of courses and semester hours specific to a specialized major combined with enough elective courses to complete the required number of semester hours for graduation.
